UEFA Reacts As Real Madrid Striker Tests Positive COVID-19 Ahead Of Man City Tie

UEFA do not consider Manchester City’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid to be in jeopardy, despite one of the LaLiga club’s players testing positive for COVID-19, the UK Mirror reports. Madrid striker, Mariano Diaz, is unavailable for the second leg of the last-16 tie at the Etihad Stadium next week Friday, after beginning a two-week period of quarantine. Diaz, who has made only seven substitute appearances this season, is understood to have tested positive on his return from holiday, following Real’s title triumph. The 26-year-old is believed not to have been in physical contact with other squad members in the past week, although tests are due to be carried out in the coming days. City, who hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg of the tie, don’t have major concerns over the development. But if more Real players test positive in their next round of testing, that could ultimately throw the tie into serious doubt. READ ALSO:  Saka & Aubameyang Fight For Arsenal Awa

Saka & Aubameyang Fight For Arsenal Award

Bukayo Saka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bernd Leno are the nominees for the 2019/2020 Arsenal Player of the Year. The club revealed the final three-man shortlist on Tuesday. Saka, 18, was promoted to the first team in 2018 and has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Gunners, becoming a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad. He has scored four times and provided 12 assists across all competitions, playing in different positions. Captain Aubameyang recorded 27 goals across all competitions, narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot. Leno made a string of great saves throughout the campaign, until his season was ended prematurely against Brighton and Hove Albion, after landing heavily on his right leg under pressure from Neal Maupay. Alexandre Lacazette was named winner of the 2018/2019 season. The winner will be decided by votes from Arsenal fans. READ ALSO:  Zimbabwe Minister Who Plotted Mugabe’s Removal Dies At 65

Zimbabwe Minister Who Plotted Mugabe’s Removal Dies At 65

Zimbabwe’s agriculture minister Perrance Shiri, a retired general who helped plot the ouster of Robert Mugabe in a 2017 coup, has died, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Wednesday. Shiri, who commanded the air force for 25 years until he joined the government in 2017, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday, two government sources said. He died in the early hours of Wednesday. “Shiri was a true patriot, who devoted his life to the liberation, independence and service of his country,” Mnangagwa said in a statement. He did not say how Shiri died. But domestic media said Shiri, 65, succumbed to complications from the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, which has infected 2,817 and killed 40 in Zimbabwe. A liberation war veteran, Shiri had a chequered past. He commanded the army’s Fifth Brigade unit that carried out the 1980s massacres of thousands of civilians in western Zimbabwe as the government sought to quell an insurgency. The army massacres, known as ‘Gukurahu

Bala Mohammed: Dogara Is Too Small For Me To Fight

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, as a “pandemic” in politics. He also accused Dogara of contract inflation in the project he was executing in his constituency. He said these when hundreds of his supporters from the Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local government areas, where Dogara represents, paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Bauchi, on Tuesday. He said:- “Besides the Bauchi LGA, there is no place that gave me many votes like Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro and in the past; these same votes were given to me at the time I contested under the ANPP; the votes I got then were 20 times more than those of Dogara. “Now, that I contested the governorship, the votes I got were also more than his votes as member and because of that, whatever I will do to you, I won’t do it because of Dogara, I’ll do it because of God and beca

Alleged Fraud: Why U.S. Court Dismissed Complaint Against Woodberry – Lawyer

Michael Nash, the Chicago lawyer representing Olalekan Ponle in the United States court, has revealed the reason for the dismissal of the complaints against his client. Mr Ponle, nicknamed Woodberry, is facing charges bordering on wire fraud conspiracy at a United States District Court sitting in Illinois, after he was arrested at the United Arab Emirate on June 10. According to the complaint against Mr Ponle, an unnamed Chicago company was tricked into sending wire transfers totalling $15.2 million. Companies based in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New York and California were also listed as victims of the alleged fraud, prosecutors say. It was reported how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) nabbed the 29-year-old through details accessed from his WhatsApp, iPhone and Bitcoin transactions. He was extradited to the United States on July 2. A report of the grand jury, a group of lawyers empowered to conduct legal proceedings and investigate potential criminal conduct, indic

Sen. Bamidele - National Assembly Not A Rubber Stamp

Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, says the National Assembly (NASS) is not a rubber stamp contrary to insinuations by most Nigerians. According To Him, What We Are Not Doing Is Grandstanding As It Will Not Help The Growth Of Our Democracy. Bamidele said this on Thursday shortly after a news conference held at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja. “It is not going to take us any inch forward. It is only going to be a highway to nowhere. “We have been through this path before and I don’t think anybody benefited from it. “People accused the parliament for approving loan requests of Mr President. The question again then is, what did we do that people didn’t do in the United States, in the United Kingdom, all over Europe and other parts of Africa.” Bamidele noted that the essence of the loan “is because our income as a nation has fallen to almost its lowest ebb. “When we planned the 2020 budget, it was predica

The soon to be reactivated BHCPF will join the funding pool,” he said. The REDISSE Project was initiated by the World Bank to cover all countries in the ECOWAS sub-region as a consequence of the 2014‒2015 West Africa Ebola crisis.

NNPC: Buhari Asked To Probe Alleged $2.5Bn Oil Sale To China, Suspend Kyari

A political activist, Timi Frank, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe alleged sale of 48 million barrels of Nigeria’s Bonny crude light oil to China. He alleged that the deal, valued at $2.5billion, was shared by some persons around the government. Frank also called for the suspension of the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari. “The NNPC GMD must step aside so as not to allow for a proper investigation of this humongous stealing and criminality,” Frank noted. Calling for the prosecution of indicted Nigerians, he wondered how Buhari, “perceived as the anti-corruption fighter of Africa by ECOWAS, would allow such brazen acts of corruption to be perpetuated under his watch. “Corruption under Buhari has assumed a very disturbing height and, except he is complicit, one wonders why he has stubbornly refused to prosecute persons indicted for the corruption perpetuated under his watch as Petroleum Minister?” He recal

Nigeria’s Defender William Troost-Ekong Overwhelmed After Helping Udinese Defeat Juventus And Avoid Relegation Zone

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has expressed his joy after Udinese beat Juventus in Thursday night’s Serie A clash. After Matthijs de Ligt’s 42nd minute goal, Luca Gotti’s men won the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Ilija Nestorovski and Cote d’Ivoire international Seko Fofana. Ekong, who played in midfield against Juventus says Juventus’ desire to win the title made his club decide to frustrate them. “I am very happy because of these three heavy points and also because before the game, no one would have bet on us,” Troost-Ekong told Udinese TV on Thursday night. “They came here to celebrate and that charged us before the game. Today [on Thursday] we played with personality and we deserved to win.” The 26 year old says he doesn’t mind wherever he plays in the team. “Well, I played in the middle for two years but after the lockdown, the manager wanted me to move to the right,” he continued. “Obviously, he decides how we get on the field but I think as a defe

Arsenal Star Defender To Miss FA Cup Final Clash Against Chelsea

Shkodran Mustafi looks set to suffer FA Cup heartache, with the defender expected to miss the Wembley showpiece with Chelsea through injury. Mustafi, who was firmly out of favour with former boss Unai Emery, has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s side and had started nine of Arsenal’s 10 games prior to the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City. But after suffering a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side, Mustafi was forced to miss Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa. The Germany international has undergone a scan on the problem and head coach Mikel Arteta has now revealed he fears the centre-back will not be available to face Chelsea at Wembley. “I doubt it,” said Arteta, when asked if Mustafi would be fit for the final. “We have to see how he evolves in the next few days, but at the moment I doubt it.” Arsenal go into Sunday’s Premier League finale with Watford sitting 10th in the table, knowing they can’t finish h

Tony Adams - Mesut Ozil Is A Big Talent Surrounded By Mess At Arsenal

Arsenal would sell Mesut Ozil “tomorrow” if they got the right offer, says Tony Adams, but he considers the World Cup winner unfortunate as he remains an “enormous talent surrounded by a lot of mess. That situation appears to be edging the former Germany international towards the exits at Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta looks to have dropped the enigmatic playmaker from his plans, with the 31-year-old sparking further rounds of transfer talk after entering the final 12 months of a lucrative contract. The former Arsenal captain told Stadium Astro: “I think I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s a very laid-back kind of guy, he doesn’t get too flustered with anything to be honest with you. He just goes a little bit – what we would call in our day – going through the motions; but players are very different today, they’re not questioned in training. “There was an article that came out recently about Kieran Tierney being questioned because Tierney was g

Arewa Youths 2023 - No Amount Of Efforts Can Stop Tinubu As Next President

The Arewa Youths for Peace and Security, AYPS, has stated that no amount of efforts put in by anyone can stop the emergence of All Progressives Congress, APC, national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as Nigeria’s next President “if it destined by God because only him gives power”. The group also condemned what they see as an unfair attack on the former Lagos State governor by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige when the latter appeared before a House of Representatives Adhoc committee earlier in the week. Ngige, a former governor of Anambra state had while fielding questions from the committee on an alleged breach of Presidential directive in his suspension of the management of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, argued with Hon. James Faleke, reminding the latter that he was at the same level with his mentor and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu. Reacting to the development, however, President of the association, Alhaji Salisu Maga

Senate Tells Buhari - Sack NDDC IMC Now

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to sack the Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei-led Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the Nigerian senate. The lawmakers hinged their call for the sack of NDDC’s IMC on financial recklessness and also recommended that the agency should be returned to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) for proper supervision. The senate which adopted the recommendations of its “Ad hoc Committee on the investigation of the alleged financial recklessness in the NDDC”, also ordered the current IMC to refund the N4.923billion it paid to staff and contractors in breach of the procurement process and approvals. Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Ekiti North) who presented the report said; “In conclusion, the Committee noted that it is difficult to find a correlation between Niger Delta community development and cash invested in the zone. “Continue

He thereafter handed him a two year jail sentence with an option of fine.

Alexandre Lacazette explains the big differences between Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta succeeded Unai Emery as Arsenal head coach back in December and has reached the FA Cup final in his first season. Alexandre Lacazette has opened up on the differences between Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta. Emery, who previously led Paris St-Germain to the French league title and won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla, was sacked as Arsenal manager after 18 months in charge back in November. The Spaniard was relieved of his duties after a poor start to the season after initially taking over from Arsene Wenger back in May 2018. After a lengthy recruitment process, Arsenal eventually appointed Arteta as their new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal just before Christmas. Arteta had been working as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, joining the club in 2016 after retiring as a player. Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta has endured mixed fortunes both domestically and in Europe. However, Lacazette believes the two have “complete

Xhaka Slams Arsenal Team-mates After 1 – 0 Defeat To Aston Villa

Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, has questioned his team-mates’ mentality following their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday night. Trezeguet netted the winner for the hosts in the first half. The Gunners failed to record a single shot on target in their penultimate league fixture. The result implies Mikel Artete’s side can only qualify for next season’s Europa League by winning the FA Cup final against Chelsea on August 1. “In my opinion you can’t come here and play like this. It’s not good enough and you can’t play with this mentality. “It was not enough to take something from (the game) and we knew if we won and then won the last game as well we could have got into the Europa League. “But now we have to win the FA Cup and we have more pressure. But we will do everything to win the FA Cup now. “I think it was Aston Villa, their fight, they put everything out in each half and in my opinion they deserved the three points,” Xhaka told the club’s

I’m Grateful To Buhari And Amaechi – President Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has extended his appreciation to the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Amaechi, over the honour of renaming a rail station after him. Speaking on the Buhari administration, Jonathan said completing the railway programme was good, adding that it shows that the President was going on with the legacy projects of the previous administrations. He said this was the way to go. Speaking to State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, Jonathan said he had written the President in appreciation for the gesture. Buhari recently named the largest station on the Warri-Itakpe railway route –the Agbor railway facility and station – after Jonathan. Let me use this opportunity to commend Mr. President publicly,” he said, adding that he had already sent a letter to the President privately to thank him for the gesture. And completing the railway programme is good. It shows that the President is doing, is g

Tinubu Will Complete 8 Years As President Before Igbos Can Get A Chance – Lagos Assembly Member

A member representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Chukwuemeka Idimogu has stated that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will rule Nigeria for 8 years as president of Nigeria before the South-East geopolitical zone would have a chance to produce the president. Idimogu, who was recently affirmed as the Apex Leader of Ndigbo in Lagos, disclosed this in an interview published by Daily Independent. Tinubu has not publicly declared his interest in the 2023 presidency. The lawmaker urged his kinsmen in the state to take an interest in politics and join the APC, noting that politics and business are intertwined. He maintained that the party presents the best chance for Igbo presidency, stressing that the “Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not our father’s party”. Idimogu said, “We must now look at where we are, we are in Lagos State, let us look at the party that is controlling governme

EVERY SESSION COUNTS AS ARTETA WEIGHS UP FA CUP FINAL TEAM-SHEET

Mikel Arteta says he’ll be keeping a close eye on his players in every training session as Arsenal gear up for the FA Cup final against Chelsea on 1 August. When he arrived at the club in December, the Spaniard acknowledged the need to be ‘ruthless’ as a head coach and knows full well that he’s going to end up leaving some disappointed players on the bench or out of the squad altogether when we head to Wembley. Will Emi Martinez keep his place if Bernd Leno is fit? Who might replace Shkodran Mustafi if his hamstring doesn’t mend? Might the experience of Lacazette be preferred to the youthfulness of Nketiah? There are potential selection headaches all over the pitch. The boss has 12 days and two important Premier League matches to weigh things. up. Asked ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Villa about who might get the nod, Arteta said: “Obviously, the feeling you are left with by a player today, tomorrow and the next day is what is valuable for the coach, not what they’ve done a week or

ARTETA ON AUBAMEYANG’S CONTRACT: THE QUICKER THE BETTER

Mikel Arteta has reiterated his desire to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club, with a new contract, and has urged the club to make it happen as soon as possible. The Arsenal boss is aware it’s not a simple scenario though – one which may not be fully resolved either way until it becomes clear if we’re playing in Europe next season. “When I was talking about the uncertain things that we have on the table, obviously he’s one of them,” he said. “There is another one obviously of where we are going to finish and whether we’re going to be playing in Europe or not, which is going to have an impact. ‘Then all these situations with the market, how it’s going to develop. “With Auba, I think I’ve been very clear with what I want. The quicker we do it, for me personally, the better because the player will be more focused, more determined and more calm. “But we have to respect the timings as well and the needs of the football club.” The captain scored twice in the FA Cup s

Arsenal transfer update: Gunners waiting for Thomas Partey contract decision

Arsenal are reportedly waiting for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey to make a decision on signing a new contract with his current club. The Gunners have long been linked with the Ghana international, and CaughtOffside previously reported on Mikel Arteta being keen on a deal despite concerns over being able to afford the player. Partey has shone in his time with Atletico Madrid and makes sense as a top target for a club like Arsenal right now, with Arteta in need of improving his options in the middle of the park after a disappointing season. It seems there’s not been much progress on a move for Partey, however, with respected journalist Fabrizio Romano explaining that Arsenal are waiting to find out if the 27-year-old will decide to extend his stay with Atletico. Romano has also given some insight into changes Arsenal could make in midfield, with the out-of-form Matteo Guendouzi possibly set to be key in the club’s pursuit of new signings. See below as Romano claim

St-Etienne bid farewell to Arsenal loanee William Saliba but door stays open for potential return

The defender's time with the Ligue 1 club has drawn to a close after a successful loan spell in France. St-Etienne have bid farewell to William Saliba, confirming the defender's departure for Arsenal as one coach opened the door to a potential return for the player. The teenage centre-half spent this season on loan at his boyhood club after signing for the Gunners last summer. There were hopes he would make one final appearance for St-Etienne in next weekend's French Cup final against PSG but a falling out between the two clubs has prevented that. Les Verts claimed Arsenal had been guilty of 'imposing absolutely unacceptable sports and financial conditions' but the Gunners hit back, claiming they had merely asked that the French side let Saliba follow a specially designed fitness programme following injury and the coronavirus break. Relations between Saliba and St-Etienne seem a little more cordial, however, with the club posting a farewell

JAMB Gives New Guidelines For Admission, How To Change First Choice

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a new guideline which requires applications for all tertiary institutions to be conducted on its Central Admission Processing System. The board’s spokesperson, Dr Benjamin Fabian, gave the directive for the 2020 admissions in Abuja. He also directed all candidates to apply through the board’s office. “Universities should resist selling forms for admissions into some listed programmes. “All applications for admissions to First Degree, National Diploma, National Innovation Diploma and the Nigeria Certificate in Education into full-time, distance learning, part-time, outreach, sandwich, etc, must be processed only through JAMB,” Fabian added. 'He didn't put a foot wrong' - Ferdinand salutes 'fantastic' David Luiz as Arsenal stun Man City

The Brazil defender has made a number of costly blunders in his career, but he was at his best in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. David Luiz dazzled in Arsenal's FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City - delivering a performance hailed as "fantastic" by Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie. Former England centre-back Ferdinand and ex-Arsenal striker Van Persie saw David Luiz produce a series of priceless tackles, blocks and interceptions in a 2-0 victory for the pre-game underdogs. The Brazilian made 11 clearances, Opta statistics showed, and looked rock solid as he, Shkodran Mustafi and Kieran Tierney formed a resilient back three. "He was the standout performer," Ferdinand told BT Sport. "Every cross that came into the box, he was the man on the end of it most of the time, heading and putting his body on the line. "Defensively he didn't put a foot wrong. When he plays in a three at the back - he did it under [Antoni

Key Arsenal man ‘seduced’ as Juventus open transfer talks

Serie A outfit Juventus want to sign Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer, according to reports in France. The Frenchman had been struggling to find form following the Premier League restart but over the last five or six matches he’s shown his worth to Arsenal, while he has scored three goals in his last four matches. His return this season isn’t great – with ten Premier League goals to his name – and there have been constant rumours that he or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be sold this summer. And now Le10Sport (via Sport Witness) has the latest speculation with Juventus apparently looking to strike a deal for the 29-year-old. The Italian giants have ‘got in touch with Lacazette’s representatives’ and even gone further by making contact with the Gunners. The report calls those talks ‘first discussions’ as they look to persuade Lacazette and Arsenal to agree to the transfer. It is understood that the thought of a new challenge ‘seduces him’ with the prospe

Raul Sanllehi makes Dayot Upamecano plan, Guardiola's Luiz message

Holding tipped for Arsenal future Central defender Rob Holding has the potential to become a “permanent feature” in Arsenal ’s side in the seasons to come, says Garth Crooks. The 24-year-old has spent large chunks of his spell in North London sidelined with injuries but impressed during Wednesday night’s 2-1 win over Liverpool. Holding joined the Gunners from Bolton in 2016 but has struggled to establish himself in the first-team prior to now, but Mikel Arteta may give him the opportunity to do so. “It was a real battle royal between Rob Holding and Sadio Mane. From the moment a ball was kicked no quarter was given or asked between the two players,” Crooks said after selecting Holding in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport, in quotes cited by the Daily Star . At first I thought Mane had the better of Holding but as the game wore on it was clear that the Arsenal defender was determined to come out on top and, in the end, he did. “Mane was Liverpool's bi

NO MORE TRADINGS!! US Attacks Disney, Google, Microsoft And Apple For Doing Business With China

The United States administration has continued it’s criticism of China, blasting companies like Disney, Google, Microsoft and Apple, for doing business with China while accusing Hollywood of censoring it’s movies to please the Chinese government. US Attorney General, Bill Barr, speaking at a speech in Michigan said Tech companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Disney were ‘all too willing to collaborate with the Chinese Communist Party.’ He also accused China’s Communist Party of committing ‘economic blitzkrieg’ and said the Chinese regime was intent on surpassing the U.S. “China’s Communist Party seeks to exploit the openness of our institutions in order to destroy them’ ‘They seek to raid the United States’ ‘I suspect Walt Disney would be disheartened to see how the company he founded deals with the foreign dictatorships of our day’ Barr said US companies bow to demands of the regime in Beijing to maintain access to the lucrative Chinese market, and noted the US ha

Mikel Arteta's statement on Stan Kroenke confirms his influence over every aspect of Arsenal

Mikel Arteta was rather non-plussed at the suggestion he might have to go through Raul Sanllehi or even through the media if he wanted to relay a message to Arsenal's ownership. "I can make a phone call and speak to [the Kroenkes] and they have been very, very supportive from the first day that I joined the club," he said, with the suggestion that he might find his messages to Kroenke Sports and Entertainment through a more senior member of the Arsenal organisational chart. It is of course a fair question to ask, not least because the Kroenkes were so often so distant from matters on the ground during the reigns of Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery. The latter was their appointment, or at least one they rubberstamped for Ivan Gazidis, but there was never a sense they all had the same simpatico relationship that the hierarchy have with Arteta. Partly that is ownership's doing. Josh Kroenke spent seven weeks immersing himself in life at Arsenal during the months t

Real Madrid President, Perez Names Player That Should Win Ballon D’Or Award

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, has identified striker, Karim Benzema, as the player to win this year’s Ballon D’Or. Perez believes Benzema deserves the top individual prize because the France international has been impressive so far this season. Benzema has scored 21 La Liga goals for Real Madrid this season. The 32-year-old scored a brace as Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 2-1 on Thursday night to win the La Liga title ahead of Barcelona and Perez insisted that he has never seen any player as good as Benzema this season. “Benzema should win the Ballon d’Or,” Perez told El Transistor when asked who should win the 2020 Ballon D’ Or. “I have not seen any player have as good a year as him.” Meanwhile, Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, took home the Ballon d’Or in 2019, edging Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.
