Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Edu's To-Do List, Jorginho Tipped To Sign, Fresh Houssem Aouar Hope

Time is ticking down in this summer's transfer window as clubs rush to get deals over the line.

Arsenal are no different and have until 11pm to finalise moves in and out at the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta looks to further strengthen his squad after a strong start to the 2020/21 campaign.

So far, the Gunners have re-signed Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid, with the Spaniard joining Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Alex Runarsson as the four summer arrivals.

But another midfielder is on the agenda, with Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey understood to be a key target, whilst Lyon's Houssem Aouar has also been linked with a move to north London.

There could also be some exits too as players look for fresh starts elsewhere.

With that said, here is a round-up of some of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours doing the rounds.

Lyon U-turn

Arsenal may have been handed fresh hope of signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon.

But after an initial bid was rejected, Lyon reportedly announced to French media on Saturday that Aouar and Memphis Depay would be staying at the club.

And Aouar conceded that he was ready to stay at the Groupama Stadium this season: "I felt that I could still bring things to this team and the club, the club that raised me, quite simply," he told reporters after scoring in Lyon's 1-1 draw with Marseille on Sunday evening.

However, Lyon sporting director Juninho Pernambucano has since confirmed that Depay could still leave after an agreement with struck with Barcelona.

According to El Chringuito, Juninho said: "Depay has an agreement with Barcelona. It is possible that tomorrow (Monday) he will go to Barca, but it is not certain."

Does this mean Lyon could also have a change of heart regarding Aouar if Arsenal make a suitable offer?

Edu's to-do list

The Gunners could face a busy transfer deadline day as they look to secure new signings and make sales.

Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu go into the final hours of the window determined to do all they can and with the full support of Stan Kroenke.

"Believe me that the ownership, the board, myself, are doing everything we can to maximise the resources we have to improve the team and to sustain and keep the players that are in this club to make this club successful," Arteta said. "I have 100% backing from them.

"It's not just words, it's reality. Whoever knows me, if it wasn't like that I wouldn't say it but I say it because I feel it and it's true.

"Whatever we can do, whether it's ourselves or the owner, they are willing to do it to support us, to back us, because I feel that they believe in what we are trying to do."

Jorginho tipped to sign

Reports have emerged claiming that Arsenal will now prioritise the signing of Chelsea's Jorginho having missed out on Aouar.

But he is unlikely to come cheap.

Jorginho appears to still be very much in Frank Lampard’s plans at Chelsea, starting and scoring twice from the penalty spot as his side beat Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday.

A late move for the 28-year-old, though, seems a distinct possibility at some point.

Whether a deal will be agreed is another matter.

And here are three players that could still join Arsenal on transfer deadline day.

Thomas Partey update

According to The Athletic, a move for Thomas Partey on deadline day looks unlikely.

Atletico Madrid have stressed all summer that clubs would have to pay the Ghana international's full release clause of £45 million.

Arsenal have struggled to match that valuation as they cannot sell their fringe players to raise funds.

'I Tried My Best' - Arsenal Boss Arteta Believes He Did All He Could To Include Axed Ozil

The 32-year-old did not feature for the Gunners after lockdown and was subsequently omitted from the club's 25-man Premier League squad. Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta believes he did all he could to give Mesut Ozil a fair shot before he axed the German from his squad.  Ozil's name was not among Arsenal's 25-man Premier League squad that was released earlier this month, which followed the playmaker's exclusion from Arsenal's Europa League squad. As the 32-year-old enters the final months of his contract with the Gunners, it now appears likely that he has played his final game for the team. Ozil did play a part for Arsenal last season, at one point starting 10 consecutive Premier League games for the Gunners before the coronavirus lockdown in March. The playmaker did not make a single appearance for Arsenal after lockdown, however, but Arteta has still insisted he gave Ozil every chance to impress before he was omitted from his team. "What I can tell you that I...

Arteta Must Be Strong To Survive Allegri Rumours’ – Arsenal Boss Can’t Show Weakness, Says Smith

The former Gunners striker has urged an under-fire Spaniard to prove that he is the right man for the job and end links to an ex-Juventus coach Alan Smith claims it is “an open secret” that former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is being recommended to Arsenal amid their ongoing struggles, with Mikel Arteta told he is going to have to show no weakness in order to “survive” the rumours. The Gunners have continued to stumble out of the blocks in 2020-21, with their worst start made to a Premier League campaign. Inability to establish any kind of momentum has the north London outfit languishing in the bottom-half of the table and glancing anxiously over their shoulder at the drop zone below them. Unsurprisingly, questions are being asked of Arteta’s ongoing presence, with a rookie coach finding out the hard way just how tough life at the top can be. Arsenal have offered no indication that they are contemplating another managerial change, but Smith says potential successors – including ...

Arsenal's £72m Enigma: Arteta Right To Demand More From Mercurial Pepe

The Gunners' record signing may have scored his third goal of the season on Thursday night but his manager wants consistency across 90 minutes. Mikel Arteta’s answer was clear when asked what Nicolas Pepe needed to show in order to earn himself a regular starting spot in Arsenal's Premier League team. “Consistency,” said the Arsenal boss, when quizzed on the Gunners’ record signing, following Thursday’s night’s 4-1 Europa League win against Molde at the Emirates Stadium. It was a game that perfectly encapsulated the enigma that is Pepe. The £72 million ($95m) man was infuriating at times - especially in the first half - but just as he had done against Dundalk a week earlier, he popped up with an excellent goal. He also went on to add an assist for Joe Willock, a late strike which sealed a comfortable victory for Arteta’s side and all but booked Arsenal’s passage into the knockout stages. It was a classic Pepe performance and more evidence of why he remains such a puzzle in nort...
